It’s UBCF’s belief that everyone deserves a Good Night’s Rest
Louisville, KY– On Saturday, December 10, United Breast Cancer Foundation provided 184 beautiful, restorative Tempur-Pedic® mattresses to breast cancer patients and survivors at no cost. UBCF had some assistance along the way: Good360 helped coordinate the donation of mattresses, fellow breast cancer organization, Twisted Pink, helped spread the word, and Brookfield Properties donated the space to make the event possible. UBCF has distributed 44 truckloads (that’s 4,200 mattresses!) in numerous states to those in need since 2012. UBCF is truly appreciative of our collaboration with these amazing organizations. Together we are doing great things for women, men, and families in the breast cancer community.
According to NBCI.gov, people who don’t get enough sleep tend to have lower melatonin levels. Lower melatonin levels may lead to patterns of breast cell growth and repair that make breast cancer more likely to develop. While in the midst of recovery, sleep does not come easily for many. An old, uncomfortable or low-quality mattress can cause unwanted pressure points, body ache, joint pain, lower back pain, and much more. It was UBCF’s goal to provide the gift of sleep to those in need.
Tempur-Pedic® mattresses have been top-rated as the “go-to” mattress for breast cancer patients and survivors due to ithe overall body pressure-relieving design. “UBCF never ceases to amaze us by their gratitude and dedication to their mission to make a difference in the lives of those affected by breast cancer,” says Twisted Pink Community Outreach Coordinator, Stephanie Jones. “Kentucky has the highest rates of cancer diagnoses and cancer deaths in the US, according to data from the CDC. UBCF has continuously been a source of support for these individuals in Kentucky and surrounding areas who otherwise would not receive these amazing gifts”, she says.
The day was wet and cold, but by 9 am, cars were lined up ready to receive the wonderful gift of a good night’s rest. “I have stage 4 metastatic breast cancer that spread to my bones and lymph nodes,” said Kathy Bragg. “These mattresses will provide all the support I need, I’m so grateful for UBCF for helping those in need,” she states.
UBCF’s long time friend Good360, was out and showing their full support as they assisted the UBCF team with the giveaway. Good360 is the global leader in product philanthropy and purposeful giving. They work with Tempur-Sealy to provide tens of thousands of mattresses to a wide variety of nonprofits – including United Breast Cancer Foundation. “I couldn’t be more proud to partner with UBCF, the number of mattresses being given away today is amazing,” said Romaine Seguin, CEO of Good 360. “These women are conquering cancer and we want everyone to conquer cancer, and because of our partnership, these folks are getting what they need,” states Seguin.
Adding an element of surprise, survivors and patients also received cozy robes and generous gift boxes. “We want UBCF clients to always feel their best no matter what,” said UBCF’s Director of Operations Beth Reichart. “It’s our goal to provide a little extra love, comfort, and hope as they battle this disease. UBCF is truly honored to make a lasting impact within the breast cancer community.”
