Nationwide Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign Puts Comfort and Care into the Hands of Patients and Survivors

HUNTINGTON STATION, N.Y., Sept. 26, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — United Breast Cancer Foundation (UBCF) is once again teaming up with Brookfield Properties for the 2025 UBCF-Brookfield Pink Bag Event Initiative, a national campaign aimed at supporting patients and survivors through community-based outreach and compassion.

Timed to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the UBCF-Brookfield Pink Bag Events run from the end of September through October, aiming to distribute over 4,500 curated “Pink Bag” care packages to women and men facing the physical, emotional, and financial challenges of a breast cancer diagnosis and recovery.

Each Pink Bag is filled with quality name brand items including personal care products, beauty tools, accessories, and practical essentials. Valued at more than $3 million in total, these gifts are made possible through generous in-kind contributions from retail donors.

UBCF is once again teaming up with Brookfield Properties for the 2025 UBCF-Brookfield Pink Bag Event Initiative, a national campaign aimed at supporting patients and survivors through community-based outreach and compassion.

Now in its fourth consecutive year, the Pink Bag collaboration between UBCF and Brookfield Properties has reached more than 10,000 breast cancer patients and survivors across the country. These events not only provide much-needed comfort but also serve as opportunities to educate the public about prevention, screening, treatment options, and survivorship resources.

“This is about more than just awareness. It’s about real, tangible support for real people,” said Stephanie Mastroianni, Executive Director of UBCF. “As we celebrate UBCF’s 25th anniversary, we remain committed to bringing comfort, care, joy, and a sense of community to those affected by breast cancer. Thanks to the UBCF-Brookfield Pink Bag Events we are touching the lives of thousands impacted by this devastating disease.”

While awareness is crucial, it’s not all about pink-washing. The impact of breast cancer in the United States remains profound. Every two minutes, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer, a disease that will affect 1 in 8 women in her lifetime. Though less common, men are not immune: this year, approximately 2,800 men will be diagnosed. These sobering figures are a reminder of the critical importance of early detection, education, and ongoing support – key components of UBCF’s mission, to make a positive difference in the lives of those affected by breast cancer.

Brookfield Properties continues to serve as a vital partner in this mission by hosting the Pink Bag Events at 29 of their shopping centers across the nation as part of their Brookfield Cares initiative.

“Every year, we’ve watched our Pink Bag program grow into something our community really looks forward to,” said Caryn Torres, Senior Vice President of Property Management at Brookfield Properties. “We’re always looking for meaningful ways to give back, and this event is a chance for us to spread some joy, show our support, and help raise awareness in a way that really connects with people.”

Early detection plays a pivotal role in saving lives. According to the American Cancer Society, when breast cancer is found in its earliest, localized stage, the five-year survival rate is an encouraging 99%. With over 4 million breast cancer survivors currently living in the U.S., there is hope – and organizations like UBCF are working daily to expand that hope to even more people.

As UBCF marks a quarter-century of service this October, the organization reflects on its history while looking toward the future. Since its founding in 2000, UBCF has provided essential support services to women, men, and families impacted by breast cancer nationwide, including financial assistance, screening initiatives, and in-kind donations like Pink Bag Events.
