United Breast Cancer Foundation’s Premiere Gala Honors Breast Cancer Patients and Survivors While Raising Critical Funds

GREAT NECK, N.Y., Nov. 21, 2024 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — United Breast Cancer Foundation (UBCF) dazzled the night with its Holiday of Hope Premiere Gala, a star-studded, uplifting event that united the community in hope, love, and resilience. Hosted by actress Vivica A. Fox, with celebrity talk show host Todd Wharton on the Pink Carpet, and “The King of Queens” beloved actor Larry Romano as the evening’s emcee, the event was a testament to the power of human compassion and the unwavering spirit of those affected by breast cancer. The gala also marked the exciting launch of UBCF’s “The Wish Fund,” a new program dedicated to providing special vacations to families facing Stage IV breast cancer, and the opportunity to create lasting memories.

The gala venue itself was transformed into a magical wonderland, adorned with elegant décor creating a festive ambiance. As guests arrived, they were greeted by a mesmerizing array of entertainment, including enchanting butterfly stilt walkers, fantastic live music from The Jazz Loft, and a talented caricature artist for a dash of family fun. Children were delighted by whimsical balloon artists and a special visit from Santa Claus, adding some holiday magic to the event. Every corner of the gala ballroom buzzed with excitement, creating an atmosphere that was positive, elegant and inviting.

The sold-out event was a celebration of life, and the indomitable human spirit held at the opulent Leonard’s Palazzo. Todd Wharton’s dynamic energy and captivating interviews ushered nearly 225 attendees onto the Pink Carpet.

The heart of the UBCF gala was the celebration of breast cancer patients and survivors. Over 27 courageous women, each with their own unique story of strength and perseverance, were honored at the event. These inspiring individuals shared their journeys, offering hope and encouragement to fellow survivors and their loved ones. Their presence was a powerful reminder of the human spirit’s ability to overcome adversity.

Among those in attendance was Lorraine Nicolosi, a two-time breast cancer survivor and long-time UBCF client, who expressed her heartfelt gratitude, “Thank you! Thank you! to all of you and the UBCF Foundation for allowing myself and my family to attend the first Holiday of Hope Gala. My heart is so full today with gratitude and so much appreciation…There was such a wonderful feeling in the room, and I was able to meet so many incredible people. I will forever be grateful for the amazing family I have in UBCF and for all that you do and have done for me. Thank you again for allowing me the opportunity to attend this spectacular gala. It was a true blessing to our family. God bless you all! xoxo With Love & Gratitude.”

Just prior to the gala festivities, Lorraine’s daughter, Brianna and her group of talented volunteer cosmetologists offered these remarkable women a pre-gala glow up and glam session to complement their inner radiance. These beauties were also offered the opportunity to choose a glamorous evening gown off the rack and step out in style. Gowns were generously donated by Hutch Design. Brianna’s participation in the event was a testament to the cyclical nature of giving back, as she was able to use the education and support provided by UBCF’s Audrey B. Mastroianni College Scholarship to help others.

With her signature grace, Vivica warmly welcomed the esteemed guests, setting the tone for an unforgettable evening. “Your presence here tonight is a testament to the collective effort and commitment in supporting patients and families affected by breast cancer. Together, we are stronger and will continue to touch lives, creating a brighter future for those affected by this disease,” Vivica shared with heartfelt sincerity. “Thank you for joining us and for your unwavering support. Together, we are truly making a difference.”

Breast cancer survivors, Mariane Sarcich, Kim Dobres, Lorraine Nicolosi, and Terry Prag, took the stage to share their personal experiences with breast cancer. They spoke candidly about the challenges they faced, the emotional toll the disease took on them and their families, and the unwavering support they received from UBCF and particularly from Lauren Brohm. They shared stories of how Lauren’s kindness, empathy, unwavering friendship and dedication to helping others made a significant and lasting impact on their lives.

One of the most poignant moments of the evening was the presentation of the inaugural Lauren Brohm Legacy Award. This award paid tribute to the memory of Lauren Brohm, a compassionate advocate and a true miracle worker at UBCF since 2016 until her untimely passing in November 2023.

Stephanie Mastroianni, UBCF’s Executive Director, took the stage to share a deeply personal story about her own family’s experience with breast cancer. She spoke about the loss of her mother at a young age and the strength and love her father demonstrated during this challenging time. Stephanie drew parallels between her father’s unwavering support and the extraordinary courage displayed by Kevin Brohm, Lauren’s husband, who was honored with the award along with their children, Ella and Benjamin.

“Lauren’s legacy is a beacon of hope and compassion that continues to inspire us all. Her dedication to helping others shined bright at our first gala and shows the resilience of the patients we serve. I am committed to carrying on her legacy and ensuring that no one faces breast cancer alone,” Stephanie Mastroianni, Executive Director

In presenting the award to Kevin, Ella and Benjamin Brohm, Stephanie emphasized the importance of carrying on Lauren’s legacy. She highlighted Kevin’s dedication to his family and his unwavering commitment to supporting others affected by breast cancer, despite facing his own health challenges. The audience was moved by the heartfelt tribute to Lauren and the recognition of Kevin’s strength and perseverance.

Kevin was truly touched, “It was an amazing evening and great to hear all the stories of Lauren helping others. Lauren was definitely looking down on all of us at the event and smiling, proud of the organization she was a part of. Myself, Ella, Benjamin and family will always cherish the memories of this evening and have comfort in knowing Lauren helped this organization.”

The gala was not just a celebration of love and support but also an important fundraising event. One of the highlights of the evening was a raffle opportunity offered by emcee and actor Larry Romano, featuring the iconic leather jacket worn by his character “Richie” on “The King of Queens”. UBCF’s generous partners and sponsors donated a variety of luxurious items and experiences vied for in the silent auction. The excitement surrounding the raffle and silent auction was palpable, as guests eagerly participated, knowing that their contributions would directly benefit UBCF’s vital programs, including the newly announced The Wish Fund Program. This program will offers much-needed respite and joy to families facing the challenges of advanced breast cancer.

The UBCF Holiday of Hope Premiere Gala was covered by renowned entertainment journalist, actress, singer, and fellow breast cancer survivor, Helen Proimos of “Stage, Screen and In Between”. Helen interviewed guests, captured the evening’s highlights, and shared insights into the impact of UBCF’s mission. Her coverage will provide a lasting record of the event and continue to inspire others to support the cause.

As the evening drew to a close, guests left the gala feeling inspired and empowered, each carrying a special goodie bag filled with a beautiful ornament and a commemorative t-shirt as a reminder of the night. The UBCF Holiday of Hope Premiere Gala was more than just an event; it was a celebration of life, a tribute to courage, and a commitment to hope.

The success of the UBCF Holiday of Hope Premiere Gala was the result of countless hours of hard work and dedication from the UBCF staff. From securing guests and sponsors, to coordinating logistics and entertainment, their tireless efforts ensured a seamless and unforgettable evening. The Foundation extends its sincere gratitude to its dedicated team for their unwavering commitment to the mission of supporting breast cancer patients and their families.

Stephanie Jones, member of the UBCF staff said, “I had the honor of helping plan the UBCF Holiday of Hope Premiere Gala. Being a breast cancer survivor myself, I was profoundly moved by the joy and gratitude expressed by the clients we serve in attendance. Witnessing their smiles and hearing their heartfelt stories reminded me of the significant impact our work has on their lives. Being part of this event was an unforgettable experience, and I am incredibly proud of what we achieved together as an organization, along with our sponsors and guests.”
United Breast Cancer Foundation would also like to extend a special thank you to Leonard’s Palazzo for providing such a beautiful venue and delicious cuisine. Their partnership was instrumental in making the Holiday of Hope Premiere Gala a resounding success.
