Dear Beth, Debbie and everyone from the mattress event today:
Let me first begin with my tremendous gratitude for the extremely generous donations and work you did for me and so many other breast cancer patients, survivors and their families today. I still cannot believe how wonderful today was! Thank you!
I honestly felt overwhelmed by your generosity toward me and did not want to take too much because I felt unworthy. I know that’s probably silly, but I was completely taken aback by this amazing event. In the end, you sent us home with not only a brand new Tempurpedic mattress, but also new king pillows, pillow cases, curtains and 40 beauty bags for other young women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Along with the beauty bags, the pillow cases and drapes I’m giving to my many sisters in my young survivor breast cancer group, which is called Your Younger Bosom Buddies (Y2B2). I told the 37 women in Y2B2 that each of them would be receiving a loaded beauty bag, which I plan to distribute next week at our holiday gathering. A few I will also mail for those who cannot attend or live far away.
My life changed forever on Dec. 3, 2015, when, at the age of 30, I was diagnosed with stage 2 IDC breast cancer. Just a few months before my diagnosis, my husband and I moved to Miami so he could pursue his Ph.D. For the most part, we have only had each other through much of this process, as we have no family in the area. But when I met my sisters in Y2B2 — fellow young breast cancer warriors, my journey improved exponentially.
Soon after my bilateral mastectomy on Dec. 14, 2015, I began experiencing extreme discomfort when trying to sleep. For nearly two years, my sleep has steadily declined to the point of insomnia. My doctor recommended many times a new mattress, which we could not afford. When I received the information from MCI about your program, I felt my needs and pain had finally been answered.
Today, laying on my new mattress, I felt like my body melted. I cannot tell you how thankful I am for your kindness. I was overcome with joy and emotion today and I will be forever grateful.
Thank you for all you do to help women with breast cancer!
Dana and Greg
Have an amazing day!
