Dear United Breast and Cancer Foundation:
I just wanted to take a minute and thank you for the encouragement and monies to receive a thermogram in place of my usual mammogram. I was at a point in my life when I was ready to stop all medical prevention and rely on self examination only. After hearing from friends of a different way to detect breast cancer, I knew I needed to pursue this option.
Ever since I began having mammograms the results were always the same—my breasts are too dense to get an accurate reading. So after every initial mammogram I was sent to the hospital to have a more intense, thorough (and painful) evaluation. This involved more radiation and compression, which I have always been concerned about. I often have felt like I was causing my own cancer! I am 55 and have an aunt who developed breast cancer, but I was at the point of only having mammograms once every 3-5 years, or possibly not at all.
A friend of mine, Denise, told me of a meeting she had gone to where she had heard of an alternative form of breast cancer detection. She explained to me the non-invasive technique which used no radiation. Later, when another friend, Darla, told me that Jeanne Wilson, a Licensed Thermographist would be at a home school meeting and offering her services I quickly signed up. After hearing Jeanne’s testimony I was very glad I had decided to look into this option. I received the thermogram and experienced for myself the non-invasive technique that gives such thorough results without any radiation! I also was reimbursed for Jeanne’s services through the UBCF. I was extremely grateful for this because my husband was concerned about the cost and was thinking I should stick with the mammograms.
Thank you again for the work you are doing to help women be and stay healthy. I am grateful for all you do.
