UBCF Provides Generous Tempur-Pedic ® Mattress Donation

December 21, 2016

Brand new Tempur-Pedic ® mattresses provided breast cancer patients, survivors & family.

The United Breast Cancer Foundation (UBCF) recently hosted a large mattress donation event in Norton, VA on December 3rd. UBCF’s donation event provided the Southwest Virginia breast cancer community with brand new Tempur-Pedic ® mattresses. On a cool, crisp Saturday, UBCF employees and 10 volunteers gathered to distribute 100 twin and 20 double size mattresses to breast cancer patients and survivors as well as immediate family members under the age of 18. The Health Wagon provided volunteer support – thank you! As in years past, OptaFuel graciously donated warehouse space and resources to make the event a great success.

UBCF anticipates hosting a Tempur-Pedic ® mattress donation event in Norton, VA in 2017, date TBD. People interested in receiving a mattress should contact UBCF at 1-877-822-4287 ext 702 or email Beth Reichart, Beth@ubcf.org, for more information. Mattresses will be distributed on a first-come-first-served basis to male and female breast cancer patients, survivors and immediate family members under the age of 18. Financial need is taken into consideration as well. An appointment is required to receive a mattress.

Tempur-Pedic ® mattresses are developed based on a patented foam technology originally created by NASA and designed to provide a better night’s sleep with less back pain. A good night’s sleep is critical to physical and mental health and wellness. According to the National Institutes of Health, “Sleep deficiency can lead to physical and mental health problems, injuries, loss of productivity, and even a greater risk of death.” Tempur-Pedic® mattresses are highly recommended as a means of improving quality and duration of sleep for a variety of reasons such as reduction in pressure points thus reducing “tossing and turning”. The mattress material responds to a person’s unique shape – adapting to support the body, helping to distribute weight evenly and alleviate pressure on the joints.

Ms. Stephanie Mastroianni, UBCF’s Executive Director recently said, “UBCF is pleased to offer this opportunity to the Southwest Virginia community for the fifth consecutive year,” Ms. Mastroiannis adds, “The use of Tempur-Pedic mattresses can alleviate pain, reduce stress on joints and muscles and provide a restful night’s sleep which is vital to the body’s recovery from illness and stress.”
